Work06E3 Radio2022 to 2023

Audio production sharpened how I write for pacing, tone, and the opening seconds of a story.

I wrote and fact-checked scripts, produced episodes, and edited audio. After the show moved to a weekly schedule, I handled most of the editing and production.

The moment

Queer News is E3 Radio’s weekly podcast covering LGBTQ+ politics, arts, and community news.

The problem

A radio script has to establish context quickly and sound natural when read aloud.

What audio taught me

  1. Pacing

I cut lines that slowed the segment or repeated information.

  2. Context, fast

I established the subject and stakes in the opening seconds.

  3. Write for the ear

I read scripts aloud and revised sentences that sounded awkward or unclear.

Results

Ambie, Best DIY PodcastAwarded to the show.
Black Podcasting Awards, 2022Best New Podcast, Best News/Informative, Best LGBTQ+. Every category we were nominated in.

Why it matters

Producing Queer News taught me to write and edit for attention, clarity, and sound. When the show moved to a weekly schedule, I took on most of the editing and production. I now apply that discipline to social copy and short-form video.

Outcome

The show won Best DIY Podcast at the 2023 Ambies and all three Black Podcasting Awards for which it was nominated in 2022.
